SOPA – PIPA protest in pics

January 19, 2012
What is SOPA? The Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), also known as House Bill 3261, would expand the ability of U.S. law enforcement and copyright holders to fight online trafficking in copyrighted intellectual property and counterfeit goods. The originally proposed bill would allow the U.S. Department of Justice, as well as copyright holders, to seek court orders against websites accused of enabling or facilitating copyright infringement. Crowds of critics gathered in NYC on Jan.18 to protest the bill, claiming it could facilitate censorship.

Protesters demonstrate against the proposed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA) outside the offices of U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) on January 18, 2012 in New York City.
