Neon surfers light up aussie’s beach

December 3, 2011
Bondi Beach was awash with colour as a group of neon-lit surfers took to the waves at night to welcome the start of summer.

Wearing custom-made surfboards with a neon wire inlay and wetsuits wired with coloured tubes, 17 surfers lit up the waves around Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.

The neon surfing event was organised as part of the Welcome to Summer activities in the city.

Surfer Victoria Larnach, who participated in the event, said that catching waves at night was a challenge, as in darkness it is not always possible to know when a wave is approaching.

“You can’t see at night. You just feel it. And then when you’re on it you can just see all the lights and see the face of the wave,” Ms Larnarch said.

“It was great. It was a little cold when we went out but waves were good and everybody was having a blast.”
